# *Thailand* SPC flooring: qualifying an additional production origin

Adding Thailand to an SPC flooring programme can support an origin strategy without discarding an established collection. The practical work is to identify what must remain consistent, what may change and which approvals are needed before the new route enters production.

01

## Define continuity before requesting an equivalent

The word equivalent can conceal several different requirements. A distributor may need the same visual collection, the same installation proposition, a matching commercial price position or a tightly controlled technical specification. Write those priorities separately. Decide whether the new origin will replenish an existing product code or launch as a related range with its own identity.

List the parameters that are fixed and those open to development: core, total thickness, wear layer, dimensions, backing, bevel, finish, locking system, packing and documented performance. This creates a useful brief for suppliers in any origin.

02

## Treat the connection as a specific approval

A locking-technology name is a starting point, not a complete profile specification. Confirm the proposed system, profile version, applicable documentation and installation method on the actual board. Check full planks for assembly, joint appearance and the relevant performance requirements. For herringbone, distinguish A/B plank systems from universal-plank constructions rather than treating the pattern name as the installation specification.

Do not assume planks from two origins can be mixed in one installation. Any requirement for compatibility needs a specific technical assessment and written approval, separate from their visual similarity.

03

## Carry the decor reference and reapprove the surface

Decorative-film relationships across Thailand, Vietnam and China provide a starting point for preserving colour families and print references. The completed floor still needs review. Core colour, lamination, coating, embossing, gloss and bevel can alter the appearance of the same printed reference. Assess a laid-out sample area as well as individual boards, including print variation and the balance between planks.

Retain the outgoing and proposed samples together. An approval should describe the accepted difference rather than relying on two similar product names or photographs taken in different rooms.

04

## Give the Thailand option a complete commercial comparison

The World Bank's February 2026 Thailand Economic Monitor places manufacturing within a diversified export economy. It provides national context, not a quality ranking for SPC factories. Compare the actual production offer: quantities by decor, lead-time assumptions, packing, loading, payment terms and delivery basis.

Use the same brief for Vietnam and China so country choice remains a commercial decision across the shared portfolio. Include the destination's product and import review for the real manufacturing route before treating a factory-price difference as a landed-cost advantage.

05

## Plan the changeover as a controlled release

Agree when samples, technical documents and artwork must be approved relative to the production slot. Decide how old and new stock will be identified in the warehouse and sales system. A separate batch or product code can prevent accidental mixing while the range settles into replenishment. Link inspection to the accepted sample and specification, then retain the first production reference for future orders. The result is a traceable additional route rather than an undocumented supplier substitution.

## Buying questions

### Can a Thai SPC floor use the decor of an existing collection?

The shared film network can support that development. The print reference and the finished appearance are linked approvals, so the proposed surface and board layout must still be assessed.

### Can existing and new-origin planks be installed together?

Do not assume this. Matching dimensions or locking-brand names do not establish interchangeability. A mixed installation would need its own technical verification and approval.
