Product knowledge01 / Understand

A surface polymer is not the whole board.

ASA is a polymer direction used in exterior surface applications. An ASA-labelled decking programme still needs an identified core formulation, profile and cap construction.

The surface can be developed with different colours and textures. Approve the actual finish and the board section together, including the treatment of edges and cuts.

For distributor positioning, use the selected range’s weathering and colour evidence rather than transferring generic statements about the polymer to every finished board.

01

Identify the substrate

Confirm whether the underlying material is WPC, another composite or a different construction. The cap name does not settle that question.

02

Evidence for exposure

Agree the weathering, colour and application evidence needed in the destination market, including any project-specific requirements.

The buying decision02 / Specify

Specify the whole product.

A useful quotation starts with the construction and the intended market. These are the decisions we work through with your product team.

Questions from product teams

A clearer
specification.

Is ASA decking the same as conventional capped WPC?

It is a more specific surface direction. Core and cap construction must both be confirmed before comparing products.

Does the polymer name prove a particular fire class?

No. A fire classification belongs to a tested product and mounting arrangement, not to a sales abbreviation.
